New Secondary Student Centre Unifies Support Services for Students

The newly opened Secondary Student Centre represents a significant advancement in our commitment to student care, offering a dedicated setting that enhances the pastoral care and developmental support available to all Secondary students.

Our Assistant Head of Secondary, responsible for student care, Mrs Lana Van den Berg, says the Student Centre has become a place of belonging for students where they receive care and comfort.

“The Student Centre is designed as a welcoming, supportive hub, offering a calm, thoughtfully curated environment that feels safe and comfortable for students to decompress, regulate and engage with the calming spaces created for them.”

By bringing together our Secondary Pastoral Care Team and Additional Needs Department under one roof, we have created a centralised hub where staff can collaborate more effectively, respond to student needs with greater agility, and foster a more connected support network.

This unified environment ensures students can access guidance and specialised assistance in a space intentionally designed for their growth.

Mrs Lana Van den Berg says students are using the centre to develop essential life skills as they learn to regulate their emotions, become more self-aware, and reflect on their thoughts and actions.

“Through supportive conversations with trusted adults, they practise communicating appropriately, seeking help when needed, and working through challenges with guided problem-solving and healthy decision-making.

“At the same time, they build strong, constructive relationships with staff, gaining the confidence and capability to navigate both school and life with resilience and maturity.”

More than just a building refurbishment

The Secondary Student Centre reflects our belief that quality pastoral care is foundational to learning. The design prioritises welcoming spaces where meaningful conversations can take place, alongside practical areas for planning, intervention, and team coordination. It is a space built not only for today’s students, but for the generations to come.

Equipped for growth

This project forms an important part of our , which outlines a staged approach to refurbishing existing spaces and constructing new facilities to meet the needs of our expanding community. As we progress toward becoming a six‑stream school by 2027, developments like the Secondary Student Centre ensure we are equipped to support a growing student population while maintaining the high standard of care and connection that defines our caring environment.

The opening of this Centre marks an exciting milestone, strengthening our capacity to cultivate a place where students can learn, grow and encounter God.
